Workshops

Shay D believes you are able to engage with young people positively through encouragement and living what you teach. Not only has she led musical workshops, she has collaboratively worked with organisations such as The Royal Opera House, Science Gallery Dublin, The Southbank Centre and Slambassadors to name a few, to facilitate creative workshops for young people around the themes the client has wished to explore.

The Rap & Poetry workshops are planned and led by Shay D. The workshops focus on three key points;

* Idea development

* Lyric writing

* Performance techniques

All workshops are based around hip hop instrumentals and poetic influences. With a few tools, it is amazing to see how young people react with pen, paper and a microphone. The rap and lyric writing sessions are relaxed and fun, with the intent to build confidence and encourage positive expression through a creative outlet. No two workshops are the same as different subjects may need to be explored and young peoples abilities are taken into account. Shay D has built her credibility on reputation through client recommendation and successful outcomes.

Shay D’s workshops take place in your venue and start from a minimum of one hour.

Shay D has worked with a variety of abilities, backgrounds and ages. Amongst others, some of the projects Shay D has worked with are:

Testimonials

“Shay ran an outstanding workshop on our secure young person’s ward. We work with some very difficult and potentially volotile young people but Shay D’s attitude and charisma shone through creating a relaxed and inspired group. She worked seemingly effortlessly to balance her time between the quiet and shy young people whilst pushing the stronger rappers to progress. I would happily work with her again and again.” Arron Selby, Audio Toolbox

“Shay undertook a series of workshops with a group of young people who use our service working with young people at risk of sexual exploitation. Shay’s energy, positivity, enthusiasm and motivation was inspiring for the young people and staff alike. After a very shy and reluctant start by some group members, Shay was able to encourage and nurture the whole group, individually and together,  and she had a great connection with the young people; being both firm and keeping them on track but also being flexible and encouraging of the creative process and allowing all the young people to have their voices heard.  The group ended up writing and performing their own amazing rap based their own life experiences. They performed with such confidence and conviction and they had such a brilliant time that they still talk about it now many months later.  I feel lucky to have been part of an experience that has had such a positive impact on the group members and would have no doubts about working with Shay again or recommending her to others.” Carly, NSPCC Street Matters

“Shay d rapper ur a big inspiration to me. You brought me out my shell of just writin to now rapping. No ones ever done that. Much love from my direction” Iqbal, Charlton Student

“Shay D ran workshops and performed at our evening for young women during Youth Work Week. She was an inspiration – her enthusiasm is infectious and the girls were excited and moved by their performance. In the workshops they were able to elicit thought provoking lyrics on women’s issues in a very short space of time and everyone was buzzing! We will defiinitely be inviting them back to our International Women’s Day Event in March.” Geraldine, Youth Arts Manager ,Tower Hamlets
